Park Güell is the best example of the artistic plenitude of the architect Antoni Gaudi. The park belongs to his naturalist period when he improved his personal style by inspiring in the organic forms in nature. The famous “dragon” crowns the main stairway and has become the symbol of the garden.
The park is mainly decorated with an artistic technique called trencadís. This is based on a mosaic composed by irregular ceramic pieces full of color, typical from Modernism. Even though Gaudi is considered to be its inventor, it was Josep M. Jujol, Gaudi’s main collaborator, who developed and improved it in many of his works. The trencadís is one of the artistic imprint left from Modernism that Barcelona has integrated as sign of identity.
